Potala Monastery |
Potala Monastery is a non-profit organization established in 2004 by a group of volunteers to provide social service activities. It serves the Edmonton area and focuses on providing cultural and charitable services to the public regardless of gender, age, religion and ethnic groups.
The monastery introduces the principle of "Being-Belonging-Becoming". The objective is to uplift one’s character, and thereby enhance humanity, by providing a spiritual environment that helps people maintain a clear and tranquil mind. Through friendly interactions and encouraging pure conduct and proper speech one can transform oneself and, in turn, has a positive effect on other people and make a positive contribution to the local community.
Our Services
Regular workshops on Buddhist philosophy and practice are as well as other initiations on request. It opens to public on the weekends from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. or during the weekdays as per pre-arrangement. Spiritual Services & Counselling, Public Buddhists Chanting and Bowing every Sunday 9:00am -11:30am, Recite Sutra, Dhamma talk and discussion on Sunday 12:30 pm - 4:00 pm. Library is open to public. Visitors are welcome. All services are free.
The shrine hall, library, reception area, and offices occupy the main floor, while the kitchen, multi-function hall, storage space, and a workshop are in the basement.
